Is Sin still Sin

We read so little anymore about sin, in fact, it's a word that has almost vanished except within the church. For certain, God hasn't changed His mind about it. We now have replaced "sin" with "mistake" "error" "oversight" "mis-step". We don't even hear the word "fault" much anymore, unless the finger is pointed our way, and to find someone who says "I've sinned, it was me, it's my fault" is a really far stretch.

We know what sin is, we know its consequences, and we know that only one thing is the cure for sin. That gift by God's love removes sin, when we receive His forgiveness, but can't always fix the consequences. Sometimes, we may have one really big lapse in judgment, that results in a lifetime of paying for what we do. But, with God's forgiveness, the sin is cleansed, gone and forgotten by God, never to return.

That gift is offered to all, but only a few accept it. The majority prefer to more or less ignore it, brush it aside, re-name it as we mentioned, and carry on as if sin isn't a big deal. Out of sight-out of mind is the idea when it comes to sin.

Sin is still a big deal. We, meaning the thoughts and desires of human beings, can't lessen the sting, the consequences, nor the separation from God that result from sin. And, just because we don't call it sin anymore, doesn't mean it isn't. You can call a cat a dog, but it's still a cat (although some would probably argue that!)

Fortunately, there is one absolute hope for us all. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him” (Romans 5:8, 9). Jesus “loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood” (Revelation 1:5).
