Choosing Jesus

Darrell had an excellent lesson Sunday morning, with a lot of take-a-ways.

In John 6, Jesus says, Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day (v54) & Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them (v56).

Obviously, we want raised to live with Him at the judgment, and certainly, we want Him with us, and us with Him now and forever, so the question is, are we flesh eaters, and blood drinkers?

The people Jesus was talking to face to face knew what he meant, and it's not hard for us to know either. Do we chose Jesus over everyone and everything? Is he more important than even food and water, the physical sustenance of life? Do we live a life that insures that nothing and nobody gets ahead of Jesus?

When we do this reality check, it may involve family, friends, jobs, perhaps even our spouse which we are married to, just as Christ is married to the Church. Jesus even comes before our spouse. The hardest person to keep out of the way of Jesus sometime is ourselves!

Our loyalty to Jesus includes following Him even to the point of death. Jesus is our top priority. If we look up from Jesus, we should see nothing but more Jesus, He comes first in our love and our deeds, our mind and our actions, our desires and our hopes.

Is this easy? No! Jesus said we should count the cost of following Him, because many are not willing to pay the price.

Are we?
