Heed The Warnings!

There is such a remarkable difference between the Lord's Church and the religions of men. What stands out, is that the Absolute Authority of Jesus Christ is at the center of the Lord's Church.

When the Apostle Thomas replied with "My Lord and my God" (John 20:28), he said it right. Our Lord is one who has authority as the master, the ruler, the one who is to be obeyed above all else.

In Peter's famous sermon in Acts 2, remember when he told those who had killed Jesus, “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” (Acts 2:36). It was clear, they had killed the master, the ruler, the one who is to be obeyed above all else.

The New Testament is our portal to the authority of Christ. He exercises His authority through this inspired word and in no other way. In OT times, God spoke in various ways and different circumstances, and He delivered the Law of Moses. Christ "nailed" that Law to the cross (Col 2:14), and brought a new law that governs us today (Heb 1:1), His word! God went so far to help us understand that, that in Matt 17:5, at the transfiguration, He said from Heaven, "This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him!” (Matt 17:5).

It would be apparent today, that many religions of men, don't "Listen to Him" anymore. They follow the latest trends, social circles, fads, and carnal ideas out there while claiming an affiliation with Christ and the church. Christ warned that people would do such (2 Tim 3:5) "having a form of godliness but denying its power". They no longer recognize Christ as LORD, nor do they adhere to His Authority. The 2nd half of that verse has a stern warning for us today, "Have nothing to do with such people." Are we paying heed to that warning?
