He, The Holy Spirit

There have been times in my life when I have referenced the Holy Spirit by saying “IT”. Perhaps you have also. We were wrong in doing so!

The Holy Spirit is not an “it”! The Holy Spirit is a He, masculine gender, a personal pronoun. In fact the Holy Spirit is a person, the third person of the Godhead.

John 16:13

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” NIV

Notice the 7 references to “he” & “him” in just this one verse.

See also Rom 8:11, 27, John 15:16, 14:20, Acts 20:23, 28, 16;13, 2Cor 1:21-22.

He can be tested, grieved, resisted and blasphemed according to scripture.

God will give life to our mortal bodies through the Spirit just like He gave life to Jesus when He raised Him from the dead. Romans 8:11.

He lives in us, and if we treat Him like an It, think of our lack of understanding in what a gift and guide He is for us.

The Holy Spirit is not some mysterious ghostly vapor or cloud or idea or concept. When we start thinking of Him like we do Jesus, a person, then we understand Him correctly.
