God Is NOT Unknown

God has made Himself obvious, easy to see and easy to understand. God has not made it hard to find Him. Acts 17:27 says, "God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.".

Paul, when he was in Athens, stood on Mars' hill, and said, "For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship (their idols) I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you."

Paul explained that God was right before their eyes, yet they failed to see Him, "The God who made the world and everything in it..." the God that "From one man [he] made all the nations,...". Acts 17:24-26.

Our world is much like that of Paul's time. God is still an 'unknown God' to so many. Some fail to believe denying the very existence of God, some fail to obey knowing they should, and some chose to obey but following false teachings. Wouldn't it be great if everyone had the knowledge and understanding of God that Paul did on Mars' hill? God has made Himself known to man, and we can know Him this way.

In our way of thinking sometimes I fear we have a misconception about God. He isn't some place far far away peering though the blinds of Heaven at times to see how we are doing. He is always present. He is just as close to evil people as He is believers, as close to one nation as another. God does not have respect of persons, He does not play favorites. God does not distance Himself from people, it is people who distance themselves from God. He doesn't hide, He's not in the darkness where people must feel around to find Him, He's in plain sight, and in a very real way, right in front of our eyes even if we fail to see Him.

Isn't it comforting to know in these troubled days that there is security and strength in our knowledge that God is our Heavenly Father, but He is neither distant nor unattainable. He's right next to us when we talk to Him, and His protection and in fact His power are at our beckoning call, if only we will call on Him. His Spirit lives within us, and He deserves our full attention. Because He loves us, He wills for the whole world to know Him and to come to Him in full submission and obedience to His commands.
