Spiritual Food

A 'food for thought' question today:

Is Jesus just an appetizer or is He the main course?

Let's consider just a moment that our physical bodies need food and nutrition to sustain them. Likewise the church, and we as individual members who comprise it, need spiritual food and nutrition as well. The body fails to thrive without the nutrients it needs to sustain and develop it and stay healthy to resist organisms that can make it sick, and so does the church. Spiritual nutrition is all important.

Jesus needs to be more than something we just nibble on. We need to feast on Him! We need to fill up on Him. If we just get a few bites of Him, and fill up on the world, do we understand what that does to us? We will never obtain the spiritual growth we so desperately need? Not only do we take in too little of the good stuff (Jesus) to grow and mature, we take in too much of the bad stuff (everything but Jesus). This leaves us vulnerable to spiritual sickness that leads to spiritual death.

May we have an appetite for knowing Him. May we spend sufficient time in His word, feasting on what He can feed us, and by default, spend less time on things that fail to compare in importance.
