Let's Go Fishing

Fishing is hard work!

Yes, fishing can be very enjoyable and relaxing but when you get right down to it, catching fish takes a lot of research, planning, money, and time. People invest thousands upon thousands of dollars, dedicate hundreds of hours of their precious time, and extend abundant amounts of dedicated effort into getting fish on their plate for supper.

On the other hand, one might simply tie a string on the end of a stick, put a worm on a hook, and while sitting on the shore bank have just as much success.

In Matthew 4:18-19, Jesus was “walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Jesus tell his disciples to fish. Fish for men. How much research, planning, money, and time do we invest in saving souls? Wouldn’t it be great if we had as much drive to catch men as we did to catch fish?

On the other hand, we might just open our Bibles across the table from a friend and simply share Jesus.
