Here We Go Again

It's been several years now, but I posted a while back about an asteroid that was predicted to hit the earth, knock it off it's axis, and life as we know it was not going to be able to continue, because the delicate balance and exact tilt of the earth is necessary to sustain life as we know it. I wasn't worried then, and I had no problem at all confidently posting that there was no need to worry, just as confident as I am now as we are reportedly in the same boat again. A "Planet Killer" asteroid is threatening us. It is described by network news as "a massive asteroid near Earth", and they say astronomers "spotted the asteroid lurking undetected within the glare of the sun".

Just like last time, scientists predict that if an asteroid of this size hits Earth, it "would be a massive extinction event like there hasn't been seen on Earth in millions of years" (Go on a tangent with me for a moment, if a massive extinction event occurred at some point in the past, how did we get back to where Earth could support life again?) (Also, if it's been undetected all this time, why all of a sudden, is it a concern? Maybe it's been there since day-1!)

But they tell us "fear not", we are OK, as "experts said it wouldn't happen for centuries." They go on to say, "there are already more than 27,000 near-Earth asteroids in all shapes and sizes". I suppose none of those pose any threat? If so, where are the headlines sounding the alarm?

God has told all of us that Jesus will come back and end time, followed by God burning up the earth and everything in it "...since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives..." (2 Peter 3:11)

We are also told this will happen "at an hour when we do not expect him" (Matt 24:44). Does that mean there will be people living on earth when He comes back?, absolutely! In fact, He tells us the dead in Christ will rise first, then those who are alive will join them in the air to meet Jesus (1 Thess 4:17) There are almost 100 Bible verses that reference the 2nd coming of Christ, and if we believe one of them, then we believe them all.

We could spend all day defending scripture's reply to the nonsense out there that speculates such things as this asteroid wiping out all life, but we have the assurance that God will do what He says, how He says, when He says, and He's told us some about the what and how, but not the when. The what, how and when of what God is going to do should be what triggers us to prepare to meet Him when the Earth ends, not some rock floating along with 27,000 more close to Earth.

An asteroid may hit the earth, many have if the craters we see today were caused by them, although scientists readily admit it's rare. Russia or some other country may annihilate 50% of earth's inhabitants in a nuclear war. Disease or biological weapons may thin the population down considerably, nobody knows! But this old mass of Earth will not be destroyed before God says so, or by any other means than what He has promised.

That's the God I know! If you don't know Him, let's talk. 325-573-0154
