But What Does God Want?

“This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me.” (Matt 15:8-9) To Jesus, this worship is not worth a plug nickel. It's worth zero! Lip service doesn't even register on His meter.

This could apply to both our daily worship of Him, and our gathering together as His church to offer worship to Him. He once said, "The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23-24)

Jesus makes it plain and simple. It's not solely about whether or nor we worship Him and the Father, it's about whether or not what we do and how we do it are pleasing to Them, and according to the truth.

Worship means different things to different people, but what matters is what God has to say. Right, good and pleasing worship means we understand the way God is, and how He wants to be worshipped. If we make it all about us, our bodies, our talents, our desires and our abilities, we somewhere missed the point.
