Dark vs Light

Today at noon, I saw a young lady, about 13 at a local restaurant wearing a black tee shirt that had a slogan on it, "COME TO THE DARK SIDE".

Now, I'm so NOT into modern day things, that I realize this might be some totally innocent saying. It may have something to do with night time fishing for all I know. And, for all I know, it means exactly what my first impression thought it meant, which is to leave what you know, and join something sinister. Take a walk on the wild side. Loosen up, 'live a little'.

Regardless of what that shirt actually referenced, satan is constantly trying to get us to leave the light and join in the darkness. What do we know about the dark side? The word is used 148 times in the NIV Bible.

From the NT alone, we learn:

Luke 11:35, "See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness."

John 1:5 "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

John 8:12 "Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,"

John 12:46, "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness."

Acts 26:18 ..."to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light".

2 Cor 4:6 "For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts..."

2 Cor 6:14, "Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?"

Eph 5:11, "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them."

1 Thes 5:4, "But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness..."

1 Peter 2:9, "that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.."

1 John 1:6, "If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth."

And those are just a few. Christians don't mix light and darkness. We don't pause to take walks on the dark side. Darkness is where satan runs free and is protected by those who serve him. Saints are children of the day not the night. Ours is the light not the darkness.
