Stay Out Of The Mire

I can't take credit for this quote, but read it today, "Did you ever think we'd live to see the day when kids are washing their own mouths out with soap?

I wish I could say that is funny, and it would be if not for the realization of the facts behind it. So much of our world is being driven by the whims of humans, and it’s certainly prevalent in our youth.

In 2 Peter 2, Peter, in talking about false prophets says …”Many will follow their sensuality” …”in their greed they will exploit you with false words.”…” their destruction is not asleep.”

The same thing that drives success for false prophets, is driving success for ignorance and worldliness that our children (and all of us) are exposed to every day, resulting in them sometimes being lured into the deception Satan is creating. Following the crowd seems desirable, especially at a young age, even when that crowd is obviously in conflict with what we know to be right. God cautions us often in scripture to not let our guard down concerning such matters.

Peter goes on to say later in the chapter, “ for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.”

False teachings and false prophets are not reserved for religion. Our world is full of false prophets and false teachings about absolutely everything, and our children especially are susceptible to the seeming attractiveness of some of these things. We as parents, the church, friends and neighbors need to work hard at steering our youth and other acquaintances toward the truth, because after a prolonged period of being enticed by fleshly desires, we become enslaved, and it becomes a way of living.

“A dog returns to it's own vomit,” and, “A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.” 2 Peter 2:22
