To Whom Honor Is Due

No photo description available.

There was a story this morning on CBS, about three kids, two teenagers and one looking to be about 10, that found a wallet stuffed with cash and returned it to the rightful owner. They were praising these kids (and rightfully so) for what they did, in a world where most people would have just kept the money.

I don't know, and I don't suppose anybody can say for sure, what percentage of people in our society would have done the right thing, but I'm guessing maybe 50%. Again, we can't say that for sure, but the point is, not everybody would have returned the money.

I'm confident that 100% of our youth at 37th Street would have returned that money if they had found it. They are a great bunch of young Christians, and we need to commend them for their faith, and for their recent involvement in OP Camp. Our young people spent hours and hours helping to teach and mentor kids that might not have made a good choice had they found it. They talked about Jesus, life, and life's choices, which I'm confident included the difference between making good choices over bad choices. And you know what, those kids listened and learned. We know that from the good things that came out of the camp. I've heard so many good reports about the way our young people behaved, the level of maturity they showed, and the involvement they exhibited in helping those less fortunate kids who came to the camp.

Teaching people good over evil is part of teaching them about Jesus Christ. Sure we want them to understand Christ's love for them, that is surely a huge part, but too often that's where sermons begin and end.  We don't always hear the part about living righteous lives before Him. Teaching the kids at this camp how to live and how to be righteous is very important at a young age, as it helps keep them out of trouble as they get older. This is part of planting the seed of the Word of God (Luke 11:8) in their hearts, and over time, that seed gets watered and God makes it grow. (1 Cor 3:6-9)

Young people, we are very proud of you. You have set an example before those campers who needed to see it, and that's "letting your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in Heaven" (Matt 5:16)
