Satan Is Close By

Have you seen the video floating around Facebook (perhaps again) of a reporter doing a live shot, it's dark, and she thinks a dog walks into the frame? Actually, it was a mountain lion, and it walked within inches of her. For reasons unknown, it minded its own business, and nothing happened, and the reporter stayed calm in the shot, thinking it was a dog.  Except it wasn't!

Satan walks around us while we are living our lives and doing our jobs too, every day.  Sometimes, he is within inches of us. Sometimes he takes a pass, and sometimes he tears into us. Often times, we don't recognize the danger, like this lady didn't. She had bright camera lights in her eyes, and we are often blinded by things too, things that keep us from seeing just how desperate our situation really is.

It's no accident that Paul said, "Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." (1 Peter 5:8). Satan is loose.  He is on the prowl, and sometimes he is so close to us that we can almost feel him.  We should not fool ourselves by thinking he is no threat, just because we are someplace that we least expect him.  The fact is, sometimes, that's exactly where he is waiting to pounce on us.

Let us be cautious. Let us be watchful. Let us be sober so that nothing can distract us and we can recognize the danger we are in because Satan is ever present, and sometimes, dangerously close.
