Our Awesome God

The caption that was attached to the photograph I used today said something like "the photographer was able to witness up close God's awesome power". I don't know if you've ever had lightening literally feet above your head or not, but it certainly does get your attention. I'd not argue at all that it's a display of God's awesome power, to create a nature that can produce lightening. What's really awesome is that God can do this simultaneously at numerous places around the world numerous time a day. And even still, that's not a true display of His power. His power allows Him to do this while doing billions upon billions of other things.

I don't know if you've ever thought about it or not, but scripture says God knows the number of hairs we have on our heads (Luke 12:7). That part you know, I'm sure. But have you considered how many times a day He has to do a recount? I mean, have you ever looked at a hair brush. With every stroke of one's hair, that number changes. Just run your fingers through your hair, and if you get one, God just did a recount. Yet, He knows how many hairs we have on our heads, and He knows that about all 7,346,235,000 people alive today on the face of the earth. Now that, in my opinion, tops sending a few lightening bolts doesn't it?  And these are only a fraction of God's awesome power that is on display for us.

Do we consider each day just how close God actually is? If He's keeping tabs on how many hairs we have, certainly He's keeping up with every other aspect of our lives. We can talk to Him at any moment, He's right beside us. We can look for His help, we never have to wait to ask Him for it. When we are tempted, God is with us in that moment, not in some far away place. When we hurt, He's there for comfort, when we rejoice He stands beside us deserving of our thanks. Yes, the power of God is a lot more than bright flashing lightening bolts and deafening rolls of thunder.

There are probably no earthly ways to describe God's power, because we only know what we see and read about in scripture, and likely that doesn't begin to cover it all. I don't know about you, but I don't see any comparison at all between God's awesome power, and that of earthly mankind. That's why I choose God!
