No Atheists On That Day

Have you heard the saying, "there are no atheists in fox holes"?

I've heard that my whole life I suppose, and as I got older, I knew what was meant by it. I know what a fox hole is, with respect to warfare. Recently however, my eyes were opened even more while talking with a vet who spent quite a bit of time in fox holes. I'm very thankful that I've never been in one, and I'm very thankful and feel a huge debt of gratitude to those who have been there. Even after hearing some stories, I can't imagine humans being in those situations and I can see where the saying comes from that when it's just you and the enemy in there, you certainly hope and pray there is a God, and that He's on your side.

A well known and highly publicized atheist recently was defending eugenics, and even though he suggested it works, he then made a case for fighting it on "moral grounds". In his comments he said, "But heaven forbid that we should do it!". "Moral grounds", where does our sense of morality originate anyway? "Heaven forbid", why would an atheist say that? I view these like many of our Hollywood elite who claim there is no God, but then use God's name in vain to sell their movies, and as punctuation marks in their conversations.

Now either there is a heaven and a God, or there isn't. For me, I've never had any question in my mind throughout my decades of living, because I believe I've seen the hand of God many many times, in many instances and situations in my life alone. I've had prayers answered and seen things happen that without the hand of God, I firmly believe could not have. I've studied my Bible and how we came to have it. It didn't just pop up in the book store one day. I've seen history and archaeology prove the Bible over and over again. I've pondered how the "smart people" say it takes great faith to believe in a God, when I say it takes much more ""faith"" to believe the lie of evolution.

We can look at creation and see God in everything. I've yet to understand how these billion upon billions upon billion of tons of mass that comprise this planet alone came from nothing. Yes, they say absolutely nothing existed absolutely nowhere and somehow it exploded with no outside force and became everything. Talk about faith needed for belief! Imagine nothing anywhere becoming our vast universe of planets with our solar system alone being only the tip of the iceberg of what we do know. Yet they can't tell me just yet how nothing existed, how there was no place for it to exist, and then "poof", it all became the organized down to the cellular level world that we have discovered so far, and I suspect we still have discovery to do. How long has DNA been around? How many years ago was the world thought to be flat?

People say there is no God. They in fact want to indoctrinate our children in our public schools with such nonsense and chastise and ridicule anyone who says there is. Our kids get that 5 days a week, for 9 months a year in school alone. How often do we combat that with teaching about God. Do we leave that to our Sunday school teachers one hour a week? Maybe this is a larger problem than we comprehend. Maybe this is why our kids don't have a very strong faith when they reach those points in life that they get to chose for themselves, and often abandon the faith they had.

When our kids were small, one of them loved every dinosaur movie that came along, and we had lots of VHS tapes. Many of those started off with "over 100 million years ago, etc, etc.". We stopped those movies often, and had the talk with him, knowing that he was hearing that over and over. But at least we knew he was seeing that, so we could challenge it. We never knew what all he was being exposed to at school because when we went to school, God was still taught.

Today, there are fewer believers than there are unbelievers, although not all unbelievers will claim to be atheists. Many people choose to ignore God and live daily as if there is no God. But it seems when the roof caves in, they retreat to a theoretical "fox hole" for protection and cry out to God for help and hope that He answers. All of a sudden, they "need" God, and expect Him to come to their aid. But God requires something from everyone, "and without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exist..." (Hebrews 11:6a) They must do what, "believe", and that takes faith.

Let's finish that verse, "and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him". (Heb 11:6b) God rewards diligence, which means that those who are non-believers, lazy, take it easy flagrant people will never be greatly rewarded by God, and that includes the greatest reward there is, eternal life in Heaven with God for eternity. We live daily with God as our ruler. We submit to Christ as our Chief Shepherd, and we know one day we will see Him, on the day He returns. "And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory." (1 Peter 5:4) This is what our faith and God's gift will reward us one day.

By the way, there absolutely will be no atheists on that day! "...that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Phil 2:10-11) "As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” (Rom 14:11, Isaiah 45:23)
