Our Firm Foundation

God through Jesus Christ has given us a "rock" to stand on, the same rock He founded His church upon (Matt 16:18) His full assurance that Jesus His son was sent into the world to save us through His life and death, and guide us into all truth (John 16:13) (John 8:32). Question is, are we standing on it?

It's impossible to be a little lost, or a lot lost. Lost is lost! Do we truly believe we are either lost or saved and very importantly, do we understand what (or Who) dictates that condition?

Many people will say, "I know because I feel it in my heart". God talks a lot about our hearts, and sometimes, He warns us that we need to listen to Him and His Word because listening to what we think and want can deceive us. . What is warm and fuzzy feeling to us does have the potential to be foreign and cursed by Him, if it is not based on His teachings and our obedience to them.

We can have that guarantee He provides though if we do indeed know His will and have obeyed from our heart His teachings (Rom 6:17) then He assures us we are saved. (Rom 8:38-39, 1 John 5:12-13, Rom 8:16, 1 John 3:14) Outside of His assurances that come from obedience to His Word, we should never lean on our own understanding.

Do we base our sense of salvation on our feelings, or His word? "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." (1 John 5:13) A comparison of our obedience to His teachings provides the answer we need.

As we consider our condition before God, one quick question. If we thought we had committed a crime, and were about to be arrested, and there was something we could do to fix that situation and avoid arrest, would we?

Do we give the same consideration to our souls?
