It's great to claim Christ as our Lord and Savior, in fact, it's necessary. Jesus says that those who fail to are in deep trouble on judgment day (Matt 10:33)
But if being a Disciple, a Christ follower is truly what we are, claiming Jesus is only the beginning. Jesus came to show us how to live, and left us with instruction to be like Him (Matt 6:24). John put it this way, "Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked." (1 John 2:6) Paul said, "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ." and then Peter says "For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps." (1 Peter 2:21). In fact, there are over 40 NT scriptures that say something similar. It is a big deal!
I certainly need Jesus, we all do. But I'm trying more and more to grow my faith and understand that I must be Christ like, and not just Christ dependent. I've been born of Him (John 1:13) and He tells me clearly “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)
